About

The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (MDL) is part of the Department of Molecular Medicine (MOMA) at Aarhus University Hospital Skejby in Denmark, which was opened in March 2009.

MDL was established in 1996 at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Aarhus University Hospital Skejby.

The laboratory has two main activities:
performing a molecular diagnostic service for patients and their physicians
conducting molecular research at a high international level.

Affiliations
MDL housed the Danish Research School in Molecular Cancer Research from 2003 to 2009.
MDL is member of the Center for Molecular Clinical Cancer Research at the Research Park Skejby.
From 2005 to 2010, MDL participates in the "Nordic Centre of Excellence Programme in Molecular Medicine", funded by the Joint Committee of the Nordic Medical Research Councils, the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Nordic Academy for Advanced Study. MDL is part of the Nordic Network of Excellence in Disease Genetics (NoNEDG) and one of the six participating research teams from Denmark, Finland and Sweden.

The Staff
We are a young team and work in stimulating and well-equipped surroundings.
The staff at MDL has increased from four to more than thirty members since 1996. Fundings are received from the European Union, the Danish Cancer Society, The John and Birthe Meyer Foundation, The Karen Elise Jensen Foundation, The Danish Research Council and others.

Research
The currently three research groups at MDL are devoted to colon cancer, bladder and prostate cancer, and functional genomics.

MDL has over the time expanded its technological facilities currently housing DHPLC - WAVE technology, multi-capillary sequencers, Affymetrix systems, custom array gridder, four-colour laser scanners, laser microdissection microscopy, Real Time PCR instruments, several robots, LightScanner and other modern equipment.

Globally, we collaborate greatly and exchange scientists with leading laboratories. MDL also collaborates with major pharmaceutical companies in research projects approved by Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital.

Altogether MDL is a dynamic laboratory, that is competitive at a very high international level.
